418 I'm a Teapot

4xx Client Error RFC 2324
Brewing coffee is outside the scope of this service.

What 418 I’m a Teapot means {#what}

The server refuses to brew coffee because it is, in fact, a teapot. Defined in RFC 2324 as an April Fools’ joke in 1998, it somehow made it into real HTTP implementations. Now a beloved easter egg — many frameworks include it, and there’s even been a campaign to “save 418” from removal.

  • Easter eggs in developer-friendly APIs
  • google.com/teapot
  • Any server maintained by someone with a sense of humor
